Like a spice cabinet. Made of Cherry with Maple for the ship lap back and drawer box. All of the joinery except on the door is hand cut, including the ship lap back (Record 078 plane) and Housing dados (chisels and a “poor man’s router plane” made from a chisel stuck through a hole in a board) for the shelves, sides and bottom. The hardware is from Richelieu and the finish is BLO/beeswax, and then a coat of furniture wax. Very little sanding in it as I opted for planes and card scrapers for the first time. It took a lot of time and is going as a Christmas present.

Jim, this is a REALLY nice cabinet. I mean seriously, it’s a very striking design and I love the materials, including the panel – is that glass and wire? Or just wire? Very interesting. Favorited this for future inspiration.

I’ve been meaning to stop into Richilieu someday. I pass their store twice daily and have never stepped in.

Thank you Todd. The glass is not glass though. It is 1/4” hardware cloth cut on a diagonal so that the air can move through the cabinet. Available at most garden centres. Being as it is going to be used for essential oils, I didn’t want the scent to knock you over when you opened the door.

Looks great! Hope my wife doesn’t see this, she’d definitely want one.
