Project Information

This is my newest box, my favorite until I start the next one. This box is made from figured makore, walnut and figured walnut. The trim on the lid is amboyna burl and ebony. The trays inside are sapele. The box is 14" x 9.5" x 5.5".

I couldn't resist taking a picture from the backside of the box. If you look, you can see why I call it the alien box.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for asking Steve. The finish is several coats of waterlox rubbed out.

Get out! That is AMAZING! I love how strong everything is. Even the weight of the inner partitions is larger than I expected. The finish is just awesome.

Can you describe your finishing process on this?

toddbeaulieu,
The finish is waterlox (wiped on) graduating to finer sandpaper between each coat (about 9 coats) up to 2000 grit at the end, then rubbing out after the curing process using water and dish soap with 3000 grit, then 4000 grit, following by waxing.

Whooooa dude. That is one beautiful piece. Before I even read the name of the project I was fixated on the alien images. Kinda like the ones who abducted me one night. Well at least I think it was them. I still have the missing tooth and plastic tag they put on my ear.

Nice work. Thanks for sharing.
