Just finished this sliding barndoor. It is 7 feet wide. It is made from reclaimed 8/4” oak for the rails and stiles and shiplap barnwood consisting of: pine, oak, and poplar.
Building this was really fun and straight forward. I used my domino df 500 to dry fit the rails to the stiles. I then used a rabbeting bit to put a 1/2” channel along the inside of the door frame. I removed the side pieces and inserted my shiplap panel material. I glued everything up and finished it with catalyzed lacquer.
Because my door only opens to the right, and it is much larger than common sizes found on the internet, I used a local metalworker to make the hardware for me.
Big thanks to East TN Millworks for the barnwood (ask for Derek). https://www.facebook.com/East-Tennessee-Mill-Works-400069913475565/
