My son, who is a big Flyers fan, has been playing ice hockey since he was four. Prior to that he was roller blading around the house. He started at 2 1/2.
That’s his obsession. He just turned fourteen, stands 6’ tall, weighs 210 pounds. He’s certain he’ll play for the Flyers.
So when he was 10 and needed a bed, it seemed fitting to make him something with the theme of hockey.
My boss, I mean my wife helped me design something, and also did the paint work. The handle to the doors and drawers are hockey pucks.
While it’s a little different than our normal work, I thought I’d post it. It’s constructed from shop grade maple plywood. The drawers are 1/2” maple apple ply, which is similar to baltic birch, but much smoother. It comes in standard sized sheets, unlike baltic birch. A great product for cabinet drawers.
It’s a full size bed, but he’s beginning to out grow it.

Very nice bed! It makes me want to be a kid again just to get such a neat bed.

how wonderful to have a Dad to make such a treasure. We have some lucky boys on here with some pretty cool beds!
Memory lane: my dad made us stilts when I was little,, and I can’t remember the binder twine hula skirt that I got when I had the mumps.

Hi Roger,
Thank you.
I know what you mean, about being a kid again. All except the school part anyway.

Very nice, even if he doesn’t make it to the pro’s, he’ll be able to hand it down to his own Son someday.

Hi Dick,
True, good point. His someday wife probably wouldn’t like sleeping in it anyway! LOL
Thanks,

Great bed! My son would love a hockey bed! Go Oilers! Oh, and we long for the return of the day where a trip to Alberta meant 2 losses for the Flyers. No offense to your son. LOL

In an effort to protect the guilty party, I’ll post this PM I received.
Quote:
this is just to funny to keep to myself.
I’m picturing a man and wife in a hockey bed: “he shoots. he scores”
the guy might think it funny but I’m not quite sure about the mrs’ reaction
lol
toooo funny. (well I’m laughing anyway)
I liked it too.

I’ll have to show this to my niece and her husband. They have 3 boys 8, 6, and 3. The older 2 are already playing on two hockey teams each and both are standouts. She was a great collegiate soccer player before two knee injuries. Her husband played hockey for Providence College on a full scholarship and was signed to the Black Hawks (never quite made it all the way though). He would love to build something like this for the boys. Of course they’d have to be Bruins beds.
That PM brings a whole new meaning to the phrase “stick handling”....;)

Bob,
A shame to get that close. That would really drive me nuts!
Your final sentence took me a second, but I got it.
Funny. I’m sure the mystery writter will get a kick out of it too.
