I made this Airplane Hand Plane for Steve Ramsey’s MakersCare.org fundraiser that benefits the Make-A-Wish Foundation. It’s made from mahogany and curly maple. I borrowed the blade from an old hand plane. It actually makes some shavings, but would probably work better with a higher quality blade. I also made a fake wooden blade that I will keep in it, since it’s mainly just a display conversation piece.

Thanks for checking out my new “plane”. Steve…

This is not your ordinary every day run of the mill plain old plane plane.
Really cool idea and execution.

Great idea and you did great bringing the idea to reality. I wish I had half of your creativity. I made the single wing plane that Steve provided but haven’t taken any pictures yet.

That is awesome, I love it. You should try an idea I had of making a “rabbit” rabbet plane, might be funny.

Bunny rabbet

A squirrel tailed plane would be funny too.

Send me some pictures if you make one.

Wow, thanks everyone for the nice comments! I really appreciate it. It was a fun project. I put the wooden blade in it last night. I had to pry the wedge out because the finish stuck together. oops lol
I love the Rabbet Plane idea @bearkatwood – You should make the rabbit shaped one!!!

My 3-year-old son would love this. He calls the flying ones “hair” planes. Maybe I can do a triple by making one like that, but with hair. ;-)
