This was a commissioned project, the clients wanted a pullout floor, easy access to collect the eggs, specific dimensions and I had to disassemble this bugger and reassemble it onsite. Couple of the challenges I found were that the ground was uneven and despite the fact that I squared the base and frame I had a heck of a time reassembling it. But the customers were extremely happy and I learned a lot in the process. Not to mention that they also commissioned me to build the a table for their breakfast nook.

Looks very nice! I built a coop several years ago with a pullout floor. It proved to be too big to manage easily so I removed it and just had a regular floor. Glad your customers were pleased and it’s brought you more projects!

Very nice looking coop. I agree wit MrMe, I removed the slide out floor in the coop I built. Installed a hard floor with sheet flooring over it…much easier to clean

Awesome! I’m hoping to build a coop myself soon. Do you have plans for yours you wouldn’t mind sharing?

Very nice henhouse!
I got my first chickens this year and built a temporary coop to get some experiences before I build a serious coop. I looked around and there are lots of videos, articles and even plans online. E.G. have a look https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/search.html?q=chicken&rsi=sbis&backendClass=entity.

You did a great job building the coop.
Raising my own chickens and having built several coops I see a couple of things to improve this design.
First there is no or not enough ventilation unless that small window on the front is a screen and that would be a bit small for the purpose. Chicken poop releases lots of moisture and also ammonia and needs good ventilation.
The slide out floor is interesting but any bedding they use in it will get into the slides and under the flooring causing problems.
The nest boxes inside take up a lot of useful floor space and do not appear to give the easiest access (with the lift “up” door…down might be better in this case) and could allow the chickens to escape when it is opened. Also the chickens will be climbing on the top of the nest boxes and leaving their messy excrement there. Chickens are very dirty animals. Nest boxes hung on the outside about 12” above the floor and accessed via a hinged top would be better.
Also I wasn’t sure about a roosting place. It looks like there is a cross bar inside; if so it would be a good idea to round off the square edges to conform to the chickens feet better.
Chickens need about 15 hours of light to continue laying so a light fixture with a timer to add a few hours of light in the winter months is needed to keep them laying regularly. Just a small 40 watt CFC light is enough.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement Mr. LesB totally appreciate the advice I will make improvements on the next one. I raised pigeons in NYC and they were some nasty boogers too. I truly appreciate the advice. “be on the lookout!” next coop may be nice enough for me to move into..

I don’t have any formal plans written out since my designs are written in “chicken scratch” YES PUN-INTENDED!! “I crack myself up!” but what you can do if you want to see the phases of the build, i.e. platform, framing, etc. you can go to my BLOG at WWW.BLOGARICAN.COM I can always give you details on a cut list, with accurate dimensions. thanks again

When I told her my idea for the first time, my wife didn’t like it too. But now both of us are very happy with the chicken.

Looks really nice! You designed it yourself or bought some plan?
Have your say...
