Basically goofed-off in the shop today, and made a licence plate guitar.

The box is make of 35-year old cedar, salvaged from my old garage door. The musical tone is nice once I plane it down thin enough. The neck is some kind of tropical hardwood I bought from the mark-down rack at rocker. The center support is white oak – a piece of scrap.

I finished it with Watco walnut colored oil, and it needs to dry over night.

I’ll string it up tomorrow and see how it sounds.

Update: I added the finished guitar, picture 4. It actually sounds pretty good.

That’s hilarious. Looks a lot like the one I saw on you tube. Now can you play it?

No, I can’t play it. I’d like to learn. I’ve made a few of these, and gave them to people who can play.

Maybe I’ll take lessons next year.
