While attending JD Lohr’s woodworking class, we built a hall table to learn mortise and tenon joinery. I decided to dimension the table so it could be used as a TV stand with a shelf to accomodate the DVD player, sound system and VCR.
The shelf kinda floats on support pins – I wanted future flexibility for upgrading components. I added a little routed detail to the legs by using a custom routing jig that JD Lohr has in his shop
Red oak, finsihed with boiled linseed oil, 3 coats of Waterlox and then waxed. Did a little inlay work on the top, around the skirt and along the front edge of the shelf.

Thanks Jim. I took a look at your website – you and your family make some beautiful stuff. Next time we plan a trip to the coast, I’d sure like to swing by your shop and see what I could learn. Maybe even stay for a class.

Great TV stand. I especially like the inlay. Would this be a good project for a beginner?
Thanks

Jim, great piece. I really like the detail on the legs and the inlay.
I’m a rookie woodworker here in Boise. I don’t suppose you would be interested in showing me a thing or two. I can bring you some wood, or beer, in exchange for your time.
