“Light duty work bench” might be a bit misleading, The top alone weighs over 100lbs but it’s no where near the 500 lbs of my heavier bench. This will be used for lighter duty work.

The oak I used on this bench came from a barn we took down on a family property 4 years ago. 3 generations of my family enjoyed this structure before it was finally time to take it down. It was 121 years old. This oak was the densest material I have ever worked with. I ran through 2 sets of planer blades and 1 set of jointer blades just milling it up for this project. (see pic 5 for the rough lumber)

This was my first attempt at taking reclaimed “large” lumber and processing it down to usable finer material. Every single piece came from the old 121 year old barn.

Pretty impressive. Nice use of a family heirloom barn! I bet you’ve got another 121 years of table to pass along to future generations – the barn that just keeps on giving!
