Without this beetle and the fungus (Grosmannia clevigera), we probably wouldn’t have all this hoopla surrounding the shock of thousands of acres of conifers in the red stage and the awe of the appearance of blue stain within those dead and dying trees. It is what it is. So, we salvage what we can from this ecological mess. You know, the beetle outbreak is due to temperatures not getting cold enough to kill back the beetles in the winter. That’s what we call a positive feedback loop.

I made a box because they are quick, simple and enduringly intriguing. I’m always on the lookout for antique hardware. I found this double hook at an antique shop last week, and I thought it would look pretty cool if it were to be placed ever so precariously on the lid of this box.

Love the Beetle Kill Pine coloring!

Nice Box, are there really antique shops in Colorado?

Little unusual top lid pull, but box looks nice and rustic.

Lid pull, reminds me of an insect. Or snail.

Thanks, y’all. Mike, close to my house there is antique row. It would take days to rummage through all of the various shops to find some cool hardware.
