Well, this is my first Dovetail. It made me a little nervous working with one of the prettiest pieces of Maple Burl. I used Brazilian Rosewood as a contrast wood. I took almost two weeks with this box. I chose to make one tray out of the Maple Burl and the other out of the Brazilian Rosewood. I lined the bottom of the box as well as both trays with leather suede that was Violet.
Finished with 9 coats of Intrumental Lacqure.
Enjoy

Beautiful!
To me, the first picture creates an optical illusion in the the brazilian rosewood looks concave when it is actually convex!

Heeey!!!
Thats a pretty impressive “chunk” of timber.
Are burls like oysters when you cut them open the box is inside already finished lined and ready for use?
A very impressive and no doubt rewarding effort, nine coats? well the results speak for themselves or is it sparkle!

Wonderful box. I would be nervous cutting dovetails on it. But you did an amazing job!

Thanks AJ. It was very slow and tedious but I was proud of my first dovetails.

Duckster
That is a beautiful build. I would be nervous on the first cuts as well. I like highly figured wood, it makes any project stand out. Nice job.
