I got a hand-me-down band saw from my dad, but it didn’t come with a fence, so I made this simple fence from a piece of scrap 2×4. I cut a little groove in the top for the clamp bar to sit in. Considering how quick and easy (and free!) this little project was, the ROI is significant. I’ve had lots of need for a fence on my band saw. Well worth the 20 minutes I spent on it.

I’ll have to borrow your idea for my shop. It could have many applications.
