Project Information
I moved into a new shop in the basement that is tight, so I have been working on mobile carts for everything the last 2 weekends were spent on a miter saw station w/ folding arms. Nothing really new or novel here, just thought I would post it so others can get motivated to finally make one of these carts as well.
One sheet of plywood, plus some scrap ply and melamine laying around and this is what I came up with. I didnt have enough for the shelf in the left site, so just left it out until I come across another chunk of plywood. I included a small shop vac with a switch that the miter saw is hooked up to so that the vac turns on when the miter saw does. It helps a bit w/ the dust, but not as much as I would hope.
I made the arms about 4.5" thick and put the saw up on risers. I thought I would do this in case I ever swapped out saws, that way I would have plenty of wiggle room. All done with it now, I wish I would have made the arms smaller. It's not much, but saving an extra 4" of wall space would have been nice. Also, I used piano hinges for the arms. If I were to do it again, I would probably use some heavy duty hinges because there is a little play in them. I may end up swapping them out anyways.
