This is Version II of a Case on Stand to display an antique bible. Made from Mahogany,Gilded Moldings and Shop-made Brass details and hardware. Here is the first case I built in 2012—-

After building the first case I was informed by a Literary Preservation Specialist that the wood I used-Oak, was a bad choice for this purpose. I tried to track him down to ask further questions but couldn’t find him. I did a bit more research this time with several curators and after some discussions settled on Mahogany with UV Resistant Acrylic for the top lid as well as an inside case surrounded by more UV resistant Acrylic. Note pictures are taken without Acrylic to avoid reflections and glare

A lot of work went into the first and subsequent cases. I would havebeen extremely frustrated, but it looks as if you put your energy in the right place. Lots of detail here and fine craftsmanship.

A great piece sir!

Was this a copy of an antique? Pardon my ignorance.

BOTH are beautiful pieces. So what was wrong with the oak?

I’m no expert on the preservation of antiquities, but I wouldn’t mind being preserved in a box like that – maybe a bit bigger.

Thanks all-
The case is my own design. I wanted the case to have the feel of an older piece to match the Bible. I used oak in the first case because that’s what the clients wanted-Oak however can off-gas acids that over time could penetrate the fibers of the Bible and bring on premature aging.
