I came upon this piece of wood setting next to a dumpster. It was coated with some kind of deck paint and was a muddy brown color. At the time I had just moved and didn’t have much I could do with it. I figured it would make a nice workbench top or something along those lines. It also has glass rings and such, I’m assuming from being use as a bar top, along with some dings but none too deep. It stood against the wall in my gearage for about 3 years when I decided I had some time and wanted to see what I had to work with. I laid it on top of a folding table thinking I would clean it up and see if it would make a bench top that looked OK. So I started cleaning it up with my belt sander. I only had a 1/2 hour or hour a day to work at it so it was slow going. About that time I ran across the legs, you guessed it, next to a dumpster, attached to a break room table that had a broken top. I snagged them thinking I would mount a 2X4 frame on them and put a plywood top to make a project table for laying things out on. About a week later, my wife walked thru the gearage and spotted it. She said she thought that it was a nice piece of wood, but it wasn’t even stripped completely yet.

A week or so later, I finally had all the old paint stripped off and ,WOW, it was much nicer than I thought. My wife suggested making a table from it. Knowing I didn’t have he skills to do legs and an apron with the tools I had, I started thinking( usually that gets me in trouble) but it took a few days to remember the legs I had salvaged and stuck in a basement storeroom. I dug them out and mocked the table up. I thought it look pretty good and knew I couldn’t make legs etc that would do it justice. So I painted the legs semi gloss black and then used a Pecan Poly on the top. t’s the first wood project I had done in about 15 years and I think it came out OK for a rookie.

Everything is repurposed except the paint for the legs and the finish for the top. Even the screws were repurposed from the old table the legs were on. I have about $12.00 in it. Think I got my money’s worth?

I would love to hear comments from those who really do WW since this is just a refinish/ repurpose project.

Any idea what kind of wood that is? Looks a little like sapele but I don’t know if you applied stain to maple or some other cool wood. Nice find… Nice job.
