I built this for a good friend who is also my best customer. Construction is pine with a red oak top. This one was a first for a couple different reasons. My first time building a cabinet. First time working with oak (seriously). First time using a brad nailer. I’m pleased with how it turned out. My door gap was off a little. Maybe 1/16 off. But, I’ve done worse!

Nice job, Trey! I like the orientation of it, usually see them deeper than wide. Is there a stop to keep the bin from tilting out to the floor? How did you make the top panel? Biscuits? Dowels? Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. There is a stop to keep it from tilting. It catching on the outside 1×3’s that frame it in. The top panel is a solid plank of red oak, with 1×2’s wrapping it. I just attached those with lots of glue and brads. I hope this is an acceptable way of doing it. Time will tell.

That is a very nice storage cabinet. Thanks for sharing. I have a request to build 2 of them and I’m waiting for the waste basket to design it around. Candy asked my question about the stop. I figured there would be one so you would have both hands free to use it. I had in my mind to use a small chain for retaining it.

Nice work! Is the top shelf area to store garbage bags?

Have your say...
