Walnut Dining Table

This is a walnut desk with 2 leaves in the middle. Overall total length is 9 feet. The legs are three similar forms glued together to create a tri-legged base. They are topped with with a piece of plywood that allows the rounded top sections to be screwed down. I used table extensions from rockler. They are all metal, easy to install, and don’t sag. The apron is laminated wood. ALthough this worked out, I will try a brick-layout next time with a veneer face. I think it will be easier and stronger.

The inlay in the center is similar to the chess table I made. This table is for the same people. They liked the chess table design and asked me to make the dining table similar. It’s 1/8 inch routed grooves with maple inserted. The key is inserting them in the right order so they look like they are ribbons and overlap the right way. I used a router rail to get it all aligned. It was actually very easy to cut the grooves.

Mighty nice looking table, and very nice inlay work. Walnut, one of my favorite woods.

A table to be proud of. I also love Walnut. There is something about the richness of the color when it is finished that keeps me coming back.

The inlay is a classy and artistic touch. Good work.

That’s a massive table! I’d love to see it in person.
