I grew up hearing the distinctive thud of a wooden storm door shutting and I wanted that in our home. I downloaded the plans from “WORKBENCH” a long time ago, and just now getting around to making the storm door. I have never made a door, so I had to learn as I went along on how to construct one. I learned a great deal and enjoyed the challenges.
The first picture is the storm door installed with the screen insert outside view, second picture screen insert from indoors and the third picture is the finished mortise and tenon I used for the inserts both glass and screen, fourth picture of the class insert completed and primed, 5th picture all the many many wooden trim pieces I needed and the last picture of the 1/2” dowels I used for the stiles and rails.
The door is 1-1/8” thick with an insert for the seasons: screen insert for the buggy months and glass insert for the colder times of the year.
Let me know what you think and ideas on how I can improve. I have three more to make this year.

Great door, nicely done – very solid construction. No improvements necessary.

Nice looking door! I know what you mean by the thud, it brings back a lot of memories. I agree with Oldtool, looks plenty strong to me. Good looks, and rugged to boot. Looks like nailed it.
