This box has been sitting on the shelf unfinished for about a year because I could not come up with a design for the base and top trim .From time to time I would pull it down from the shelf and take a look at it and play around with some ideas but nothing worked to my satisfaction .
A couple of days ago while working on another project I took another look at it and suddenly this idea came about and everything just fell together .
I guess sometimes it just takes time and patience to get the design just right and I am very happy with the result .
The box is made from sawn spalted beech veneer which is laminated with hot hide glue to Baltic birch plywood and American walnut for the trim .
Size : 9 1/4” W x 6 1/4” D x 4 1/4” h all measured at lid .
The box bottom , lid and tray are lined with a deep brown cloth and sown on poster board backing . It is finished with BLO and several coats of satin lacquer and a couple coats of bees wax .

Klaus,
Of course it came together! It just had to catch up to you. LOL! SPAULTED NICE!
How thick is the veneer and did you slice it? Been working/playing on the bandsaw today trying to figure out how to get the best from some figured wood that I had cut awhile ago.

Klaus,
Lovely combination of woods that come together nicely in this box. I like it.

Klaus, nice one…the beech and walnut play well together…good choice. What are the little black accent blocks?
Great harmony of design and craftsmanship.

Worth waiting for Klaus ….... and the HHG wasn’t lost on me either. Good on ya. It won’t be long before it’s all you want to use.
I like the top and bottom trim a lot. Well done.
