I had some really nice maple to work with so I decided to create a solid head mallet with an ipe handle. It’s a pretty large mallet and it has a great substantial feel. I used traditional woodworking techniques to build it, and I created a video documenting each step. Please check it out if you’re interested in building a mallet too.

Linn,
Very practical and functional Mallet. I like the Traditional shape and sturdy size. The Square mortice always looks good too on a Traditional Mallet…..What a great Shop Mallet!!!!!
Great project and fun to build. I haven’t looked at the video for it yet but I will this evening. Thank you for posting.
Kind regards,
Cliff.

Great video! I just purchased a mallet, but after seeing your very detailed instructions, I think I’ll build my next one. It will be a good way to practice with hand tools
thanks
