In order to make room for our new baby, we had to do some major “room switching”. What was a hobby room for my wife, is now a guest bedroom/hobby room. So, to make room for the bed, nightstand, and dresser, I built a 8’x7’ bookcase to store all her stuff.

The plans are from, and it was fairly straighrforward. Three cases about three feet in width, by about seven feet tall. The entire cases section sits on a base that allows for the base to be installed, and the crown molding brings the final height to a little over 7’. Little bit of hardwood (poplar) trim to tie it all together, and that is it. Took me about 5 days from buying material to finish painting.

The biggest lesson I learned was in regard to the crown molding. Basically, I need more practice. I ended up buying about 30’ of crown mold just to be able to isntall 14’. YIKES!!!

Hi Derrek, I hear you about the crown molding, but don’t worry, next time you’ll only use 25’... then 20’... then…
Looks good!
