Project Information

I almost feel guilty for calling this one a project. They we too easy to make.

Following the article at Highland Woodworking, I made three pairs of cauls. They take almost no time to make, it's good practice using your hand plane (which I needed) and there's no glue-up or finishing.

I recommend using at least three pairs on a glue up.

I'll eventually make 4 footers when I need them.

Instead of the hand plane, you can set the board's mid point over the jointer's blades and run the piece through the rest of the way. Reverse the board and repeat. This leaves the center "high" and removes material towards each end of the board. It may take more than one pass to get the desired separation at the ends.

If I had a jointer, you are correct.
