I went to HD today for a totally unrelated project. They had a couple poplar boards that had nice color to them. I had no choice but to buy them. Poplar is something I enjoy, even though it’s not a hard wood. Didn’t pay much attention to them, other than the coloring. When I got home, I realized there wasn’t a straight side on them. I wasn’t sure what to do, so I build a shelf. Don’t worry, I’ll buy more reels to fill it up.

Trey, can you post some more pics of the color that spoke to you? Poplar can have such variety. It is a great wood. How are the joints done on your shelf unit? Thanks for sharing.

Actually I believe poplar IS classified as a hardwood (which by the way has no relationship to the hardness of the wood…)
