I really needed a strop but wasn’t willing to shell out 30 or 40 bucks for a piece of leather on a piece of wood. I had some scrap oak that I got for free off of craigslist that worked just fine. I marked all the curves with a compass and cut it out with a jigsaw. After I planed it flat, I used a 1/2 in round over bit with my router to get the edges nice and uniform. I bought a bunch of scrap leather for 5 bucks at hobby lobby that did the trick. With a simple epoxy job and some clamp time, voila, a 1 dollar strop and some leftover leather! I also put a more grittier stropping paste on the other side to have a choice.
