End grain, yes (mostly)...cutting board, no. I made a set of these coasters for my dad for Fathers Day. They are 4 inches square and about 3/16 of an inch thick. The woods include cherry, walnut, spalted maple, purpleheart and leopard wood. They have 5 coats of polyurethane, which I hope will protect them from moisture. I added cork feet as they are incredibly smooth and slick…I hope this will keep them from sliding on a table. The truth is, according to mom, they will not be used as coasters but rather appreciated as art in the living room. Just like a mom huh? I am north of 50 years old and she is still hanging my stuff on the fridge. Thanks for looking.

Nice use of scraps. I might do something similar with mine. Thanks for sharing!

So does that mean when you make your cutting board you will put magnets on the back to hang it on the fridge?
