Last night I wanted to see how well poplar wood would hold up and it does okay. Anyway I hand planed a piece of poplar, one ring was glued as I wrapped the wood around it, the other I only put glue when the wood first overlapped and then at the end of the wrap. they both received a gluing on the inside, outside and both sides of the rings.
Between the two, the first one that was glued while wrapping is stiffer, but the first ring that I posted a week or so ago that received several coats of glue after being wrapped and then sanded is even more stiffer. I must say I didn’t put the full attention to sanding the sides of these two rings. So there you go!
