I saved some scrub oak from the fireplace, and cut up a log into boards for the small box in picture 1. The top is a quartersawn bookmatch since it wasn’t a really big log.

Also in picture 1 is a bandsaw box where I took a knobby section of the log and left it rough on the outside. I used a wire brush wheel on the outside to strip off the punky wood and dirt.

Picture 2 is small lidded bowl I did on the lathe. This was rough since the wood on the outside was soft and fairly fragile. I was lucky it didn’t fly apart while I worked it.

Nice boxes and great use of some pretty wood. I can throw away and pretty wood either.
