This was my first woodworking project. I had bought some cherry and needed a bookshelf. Top is biscuit jointed and the front edges are all biscuit jointed on. The edge wood is (or was) a much deeper, darker heartwood than the main pieces . The birch miller 1X dowels are a recent addition due to the fact I was only screwed on and I ripped it off the other day. Next time I’ll remove all the books before trying to pick up.
It is finished with a heavy-duty Cherry stain(name unkown) and sealed with polyurethane.

That cherry really pops. I think I would have gone with a more contrasting wood for the edges than the heartwood but it still looks good. Congrats on your first project!
