I have a good friend moving away, so I wanted to give him a nice bottle of bourbon as a going away present. I also had some scrap wood left over from my last project (the Negative Jewelry Boxes), so I figured it might be cool to build a nice box to give it away in.

The wood is cherry and walnut, with a baltic birch plywood bottom. The joinery is mitered corners with walnut keys. The lid is a simple sliding lid made out of cherry. I ran my planer along some other scrap for some shavings to act as padding for the bottle.

I have more details, descriptions, and pictures of the build on my Tumblr:

Great looking box, great looking bourbon! I’m sure he’ll appreciate both very much!

Great work I like it. Nice colors and flow. Its hard for me not put splines in any boxes or frames I build now. I love how they look.
