This bowl is from a small Japanese maple from our front yard that snuffed out in 2013. This chunk was from near the base where smaller trunks branched out, so there is a rift down the middle where two small trunks join, with a bark inclusion in between. I was delighted to find some nice spalt when I opened it up. Finish is Danish oil. I sanded to 220 grit before oiling. I need to add some more coats and sand up to 600.
