I don’t consider this a woodworking project; it’s more of a crafts project. The rose is actually a pine cone painted with model car paint (lets more of the detail show). The leaves are purchased at a crafts store. The glass dome and base was also purchased. I did not use the base because these are typically poorly made out of “somewood” so I made a new base out of Paduak.

I have made several of these for family and friends for special occaisions.

Nice project, and if you used a pine cone (from a tree) and made the base – it’s a woodworking project :-))

Looks fantastic! I suppose this is a bit off track too, but roses are one of my favortive patterns when I tool leather.

Very unique, I really like this project.

I enjoy carving roses.

I have not carved anything as yet but there is always tomorrow.

When I saw this pine cone I saw a brown rose … so it went on from there.
I made one for my mother and one for a close friend of my wife. I tried to get some crystal clear glue drops to add to the leaves and rose to look like water droplets but did not succeed. I got clear drops but they were too flat to look like water.

I used to live in Rochester until I wen to school in Wisconsin and then on to Illinois and now in San Jose. Our first vacation was in the Hibbing area.
