When Woodsmith Magazine published the plans for this box in Aug/86 I had three children from my first marriage and one (one year old) from my second marriage. No girls. I wasn’t in planning to have more
children. I was 46 at the time. Still I kept the plans with the hope of having a granddaughter some day.
My granddaughter reach 16 in March this year I wanted to make good my promise.
Steve Ramsey has 6 videos showing he construction of the same box. The only difference is the inlay.
His has a letter. The rest is exactly the same.

I didn’t follow the instructions to the letter. I used less walnut. I purchases 8/4×6 x 4. I was lucky to
find a piece 6 1/2 wide. So I didn’t have so much waste. I resawed to make the trays buttoms instead of using plywood as indicated in the plans. I think it came out nicer.
Also the plans calls for spline in the box corners to reinforce the joint. They run all the way through. I didn’t
want that. So I blinded so they don’t show on the border.. Same with the dividers in the trays.
I think it came nice, but the most important thing and the most rewarding as well: My granddaughter loved it.

A truly beautiful box that will be cherished for years. Great work!
