3” thick, clear all heart vertical grain redwood was used to build these 10” tall DBBL French doors with mating screen doors. These double double Frenchies, were flanked by crank out awning windows topped by a fixed pane. Awning windows were double sealed by both bulb & leaf weather-stripping. This was described as one set.
Approx 14,00 bf of clear redwood went into the 21 sets of awning, fixed window, & exterior door combinations. This did not include four 10’ perpendicular lengths of fixed window/awning combination that were 20 ft in height. Pattern of the height was 10’ fixed over a 7’6” fixed, over a 2’-6” crank out awning window.
The dbbl French doors were the most challenging. Seems strange, it’s only 4 pieces of wood. The joints were dual pronged mortise & tendon. These were supported by 5 1/2” ball bearing hinges. More later, wife’s got dinner
