Floating Shelf

My wife found some floating shelves she liked on Pinterest and asked if I could make something similar. I had access to some large Red Oak crown molding that I thought would work. With no previous experience cutting crown…I wasted a full 8’ piece trying to figure out the angles.

I have since looked at youtube and made a jig for cutting miters on crown.

The last pic is my second attempt…with lessons learned, it took a fraction of the time, with much less waste and much cleaner joints.
