Backlit Gun Box

This is a gun box that I made for my father for Christmas, using black walnut and maple, with a spray lacquer finish. I did the maple splines in the corners for some unique detail. The gun sits on little posts and raised up from the bottom to give it the effect of floating along back lighting. I wired it with LED light tape, and made it to work on batteries or AC power. All the wiring is hidden under the bottom.

The box itself didn’t take much time, but much time and effort was put into figuring out the best way to wire it and do the back lighting, without seeing any of it. Overall, I think it turned out great and it has been a hit. I get requests from people to make one for them, but I think this is going to remain a one of a kind.

That is just too cool! I’ve seen a lot of ways to display firearms, but this beats them all. Very clever. Nice woodworking to boot.

Fred, most importantly this is a very attractive, well made box. Nice job. I really would appreciate a picture or two of how you did the wiring and lighting. I have a project that I am finishing that could use the light technique.

Thanks to everyone for the comments so far!

Al, I don’t have any pics right now, but I can have my father take some and send them. I’ll post them as soon as I can.
