My parents gave me the nursery table that they used for me when I was a baby. It was dated, but was solid wood. I removed the trim, added some new trim, a new top and dressed up the drawers. Instead of applying false drawer fronts to obtain the card catalog look, I just cut dadoes into the drawer fronts on the tablesaw. I didn’t have any wood filler so I used drywall spackle to fill the holes and various transitions. I was surprised that it was much easier to work. For painted furniture, I’m going this route until I’m proved wrong.
