I restored this vintage chisel set for a friend and turned new handles for them all out of apricot firewood.

Well done, those handles look great? How is apricot to work with?

Hey Jay, it is great when it is wet but as it dries it cracks and gets punky really fast. I love making spoons out of it though!

Cool, thanks. I’ve got some apricot chunks from a friend’s tee that came down in a storm. Most of it is destined for the smoker, but I’ll have to salvage a few pieces for some small projects.

Beautiful set of chisels, fine work on those handles.
My favorite are the one with the sap wood, love the contrast.
If you save fruit tree wood, then close the ends with wax or paint, it will keep it from cracking too bad.
Best thoughts,
Mads
