This is a custom cane made for a young lady who needed a handle that would allow her to put a major amount of her weight on the handle and be able to hold herself up without losing strength or control of her hand. She needed a handle that would allow her to have ample palm rest and more support for her wrist. Many of us do not have enough hand or wrist strength to support our body weight. I designed this handle to allow an extra grip for the fingers plus a resting area for the wrist allowing for more stability as opposed to just using your fingers and hand to hold onto a cane.

This is a right handed reversed handle cane that is used with the slender extension pointed outwards from the body so that your wrist and palm are resting over the shaft (above the visible tenon) and the fingers can wrap around the extended part of the handle. The thumb is wrapped under the handle and the fingers meet underneath in a comfortable grip so there is additional leverage allowing your hand to push yourself upwards and also swing out the shaft forward for a fluid motion and easy stride in a fast or slow pace. It sounds complicated, but it’s a very easy and comfortable way to hold a cane and the extra surface area is a sturdy resting place, which helps me reach my goal in creating a walking aide that provides comfort and stability with a sense of style.

The handle is made from solid extra fancy Madrone Burl, the collars are of Bubinga and Gabon Ebony and the shaft figured Padauk.

Beautiful, Meilie!

The grain in the burl is stunning! I really like the dark contrasting collar, too.
