I finally finished this Men’s valet for my nephew(godchild) Zachery. It is made from the 200+ year old pecan that we got from my Dad’s tree a few years ago. I have posted some end grain cutting boards with the pecan in it, but this stuff became spalted. I left it in the log form for about a year, then when I cut it up here we are.
I used my Stott/Milescraft dovetail jig to cut the dovetails in the case and the drawers. I did not want to add molding, or trim. Just straight forward construction. I wanted to focus on the wood. Man this stuff is amazing. Pecan is hard but this is still delicate to work with, I was very careful not to make any mistakes. It measures:
8”X12”x4” Tall. The top is recessed 1 1/4” for cellphone, etc. storage. The drawers are: 4 1/4”X4 3/4”X2” Tall.
He chose the traditional green felt to line the top, drawers, and back. I also left the back open for cord storage,
For charging. It was a fun build for me, working with this wood.
The finish is equal parts of: high gloss poly, boiled linseed oil, and mineral spirits.
Thanks for looking, comments are always welcome.

Nice Valet – Rustic isn’t quite strong enough for a description
