I picked up a slice of black walnut burl last spring while at a woodworking show in Iowa. I stared at it for nine months before deciding what to do with it. The board was 13” X 30” X 3/4” but one end of it was warped. So, after long deliberation I decided to make a small accent table and use some maple that I also picked up in Iowa for the tapered legs. This is my first attempt at making legs with a four sided taper and I ended up using my band saw and jointer to get it accomplished. I used a rattle can of Deft lacquer to finish the table as I didn’t want to darken the wood at all.

That’s a beautiful table, it has a real quality look about it. Well done. And put a cloth doily under that statue :-P

I really like the color contrast between the walnut and maple. As soon as I saw the tapered legs, I said, “Wow! Why didn’t I put a taper on the legs of the shaker end tables?!”

If I’d made this I would just sit and rub my hands on it for three days. Beautiful.

RadioActiveRich, if your going to be rubbing the top can I give you some paste wax to rub in? Thanks for the comment.
