I had to try it and I think I’m addicted but I’m ADD so that won’t last long :) I used 8/4 walnut, cherry and maple. It’s 17” long 10-1/2 wide and 2” think. I finished it with mineral oil and wax. I know you’ve seen these a hundred times so thank you for looking!!!

Very nice.
Did all the joints turn out as tight as you imagined?

Thanks! I can find flaws in there. I need to be more patient with the next one.

I never get tired of seeing these. I keep telling myself I will make one one day! Great work and the beauty of making something is that generally it is only you who notices the or knows about the mistakes, but I feel the mistake make it more real and enjoyable!

How long are the sides of the individuals pieces? I’ve seen these everywhere but no one provides this detail?

Yeah it took a while watching and reading about these. I finally experimented and got it. Let’s say you’re starting with 8/4 stock. You rip the edge all the way down the board @60 degrees which will read on the table saw as 30 degrees. You measure that edge at the angle then move your fence that far for your next 60 degree cut. I did the 3 woods at the same time to make sure they were all the same. Don’t measure the thickness measure the length of the angle. That’s the best I can describe it. I glue the 3 colors together then cross cut them the next day on the bandsaw. Hope I helped.

Really nice job. Thank you for the detailed answers in the comments. Really helpful for those of us who are tentative to try our luck on one of these.
