I have always wanted to build a playscape for my daughter since she was born. I know she wouldn’t be able to use it until she was older but I wanted to anyway. I never got around to building it until last year, she was 4, and here is the result. She is 5 years old now and can do the monkey bars by herself and runs through that thing like she has been doing it for years..

I used pressure treated lumber for everything and then waited about 6 months for it to dry out (once all the green was gone) and then applied Thompson’s Water sealer. The deck is 12’x12’ and the play house on top is 12’x6’ and 4’ tall at the eves.

I started with plans from Ana White’s site, like most of my projects, but modified to things I wanted.. Rock wall, monkey bars, etc..

This should get you started if you want to build one yourself..

Wow, that is fantastic!

For Christmas my sisters and I put in together for a playground to put in my parents backyard because we all go there so often. I pushed and pushed for them to let me design and build it, but no, they wanted a ‘professional one’. This ‘pro one’ cost us a packet and is made of crappy lightweight timber full of cracks and knots. The kids are happy with it, but I’m not.

For the same cost I could have built something twice the size and 5 times as strong. Maybe in my backyard instead…

Bwahaha! I’m guessing this is exactly what you wanted as a boy … nicely done. Adventures ahead!
