So my very first woodworking project: this is one of 6 brackets I made to support window boxes on my pool shed cum guest house. I have spent the last several years obsessing over one home improvement plan after another (convert attic into finished space, mudroom built ins, pool shed converted to guest house, etc), but have never been able to implement them bc I do not have the skills and with two young kids I can think of better things to throw my money at (college education savings for them). So deciding I get into woodworking has been a crystallization of those desires – building my skills so that I can do all these wonderful things that I dream of!

I have been fortunate bc I found a work working club in town that has all the tools/expertise I could ever hope for…. And the volunteers there have helped me learn and create.

So the brackets were a great start – I learned to joint and plane, dado, router, bandsaw, etc. The window boxes – which are not quite finished in this pic (they got another level of trim to cover the end grain at the top and make it all nice and flush. I routed all the trim for those boxes – aieeeeee!

Come spring, all of these will be painted and installed. For the time being, I thought I would jump in here!

I am now working in a cupola for the soon-to-be guest house.
