Elsie was more than a neighbor. I have known her for nearly 53 years. I joked with people by telling them that I have known Elsie longer than my own mother. Actually, I referred to her as my “pseudo-Mom”. When I was 2 years old, we lived next door to each other. My family moved when I was 4 and somehow Elsie and her family moved right across the street from my family. We were neighbors on Beech Avenue for nearly 33 years. We have kept in close touch for the last 21 years after Beech Avenue. Last Sunday morning, Elsie went home to be with the Lord. I will miss her but will cherish the memories and I know she is in a better place. It is MY turn to move to where Elsie lives now.
This is the first time I have ever really tried to make a box like this. It is made of beech (of course) and purpleheart. My wife made the removable inside liner out of foam board and felt. The middle splines are intentionally slightly off of middle. That reason will be shared with Elsie’s daughters when I see them later this week. Finish is shellac and wax.
Hope you like it and I welcome your comments/hints/suggestions.

Quite lovely, a true treasure for the family. Beech, how appropriate!
