I recently built 2 floating nightstands that each have a secret magnetic locking mechanism for the top drawer. This lock is really what I want to share. It only costs $3 to build and is very simple to add to any existing piece of furniture with drawers. It only requires a hinge pin, a poker chip, and a 1/2 inch neodymium magnet that I found on Amazon.

The only metal part of this lock should be the hinge pin. I tried using a metal washer as the pin guide and the magnet caused the metal pieces to stick together. Hence, the plastic poker chip.
I have full instructions on how to build it at:

And an instructional YouTube video at:

Yeah, a lot of the secret drawer locks you’ll find online seem more complicated than they need to be.

Thanks guys! If you like the drawer lock you might like my hidden crawl space access door. I Don’t know that it’s an appropriate project to post here, but I will have a YouTube video and instructables guide
soon. Who doesn’t like a hidden door?

That’s awesome! I’ve got a small safe with my handgu inn it beside my bedside table. This is much more user friendly.
