Drill Charging Station

This is my take on a Drill charging station. I browsed through LJ and Pinterest to look for ideas and was originally going to go with Jay Bates’ version, but the size just wouldn’t work out for me, so I ended up using a design I saw on Pinterest with some modification. This version is a bit wider and much taller due to the 2 shelves and storage drawer. I am really loving this and am glad I was able to knock this out in a span of 3 days (would have been in 2 if I didn’t have to wait to get some 1” pocket hole screws). Note to everyone: never try using regular screws on Pocket holes unless they are self-tapping…that completely escaped me when I was building the drawer and almost couldn’t get the screws out once they got half-way. Anyways, this is entirely a scrap project with what I had laying around. Most of it is 3/4” ply of various kind as well as MDF for the top shelf. The drawer is made out of 1/2” ply with 1/4” lauan ply for the bottom. There is no drawer guide; just a decent fit drawer with maximum space. The knob was from a bag of 20 brass knobs I got from a yard sale ($1…can’t beat that). I also modified the distance between the drill storage as I needed a slot for my pin nailer, which is much smaller than what the design asked for, so it fits that, along with my 16 ga nailer that I’ll put in there eventually. If you have any questions, just let me know. Thank you for looking. :)

That’s it. I’m building one this weekend.

Real nice work. I like the drawer you incorporated into the design.

Thanks for the comments. I decided to add some weather stripping to the drill holders and they seem to hold better that way without any prolonged pressure on the forward/reverse switch.
Rick – I looked at Duckster’s version and that’s exactly the same design I saw on Pinterest. Since I have 4 chargers, the original design wouldn’t work for me, plus who couldn’t use more storage space? :)
Off to the next project, which will be a moxon vise.

I like it. EZ access, and plenty of storage for bits, etc., all in a small area.
