This frame was a Christmas gift for my wife this year. We saw a frame similar to this at the beach over the summer that my wife loved, so I took a few pictures knowing it would make a great gift at some point. I used cedar for the backing and cherry for the border…luckily I had been given some cherry boards by my father-in-law that had a very rough edge that worked perfectly for this project. I resawed the face of the board to rough that side up more. I used screws to hold everything together…I plugged the screws on the outside knowing the dark stain would hide them pretty well. I ended up being crunched for time as usual and used a Rustoleum stain from Lowes (Kona is the shade) instead of something from General Finishes…it worked out pretty well. I ordered some simple 4×6 glass frames and Rockler’s glass retainer clips to hold the pictures in place. With imperfection being the nature of this project it could easily be completed in a weekend.

I like this a lot. Not a fan of the clips distracting from the picture but the rough sawn frame and cedar look work very well together.
Well done.
