Unique Push stick

I have a little youtube channel and it seems like the majority of the comments I get on my videos are either the Audio is Horrible or, your fingers are too close to the saw blade.

I decided to do something about both of those. I picked up a new Video camera and Shotgun mic for xmas and I also made myself a new push stick. This is definitely a poke at the safety trolls. Not sure how much I’m actually going to use this one but it was pretty fun to make. This was my second attempt at relief carving. I’m pretty happy with the carving, but the painting is just, eh…

Whimsical and practical! A little scary on the optics when you think of the safety of fingers, but to the point!

For about thirty-five years my rule was that if the saw was more than an inch away from the fence, I’d hook two fingers over the fence and use my hand because I didn’t trust push sticks. Never had an accident but in the wisdom of my older years I’ve decided that discretion is the better part of valor and now use a shoe style pusher kind of like this one.
I still think that the standard push stick is a scary tool but I like yours particularly because it graphically illustrates how a good pusher simulates the control that you can get with your hand.

Good one!

That is a very nifty idea. The first time that push stick gets nicked by the blade you will be glad it wasn’t your real fingers. I love the look of it.

Shipwright; I have also done the 2 fingers over the fence. Probably most wood workers have at one time or another. Maybe that push stick could be made with 2 fingers that hook over the fence :)

Pretty cool but I think you should cut off the tip of one of the fingers and paint it red; just for a reminder :)

Glad you all liked it.

I was thinking about putting a band-aid on one of the fingers…

Big smile.
Finally a way to make ‘Saw Stop’ cut a finger…

Great idea! And a bandaid would be the perfect addition to it!

I like this idea a lot.

I envision a whole line of push sticks in this style. There would be the foot, the elbow, the tongue, the …

Great stick !
and the audio and new camera works great also, audio sounds fine and loud. A lot of people make videos and you cannot hear them speak, but yours is great. What mic did you buy? I need one also.
