Well my lovely daughters wanted a cabinet above the lav to store their hair spray…brushes….makeup….general girlie stuff…...
They requested “something nicer than what they have in the stores daddy”....which….as my fellow woodworkers you will understand… a challenge!!!

I picked up some cherry at an estate sale a couple years ago…..I loaded my truck to the point it was barely driveable and they were thrilled with my $500 offer!!!
I got well over 500 BF and once I started planing it I realized what beautiful stock it was!!

The raised panels are maple, the rest is some of that beautiful figured cherry.

Finish is 2 coats of Amber shellac with a light sanding after each coat…....that really brought the figure out..
After that several goats of semi-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer with a light buff with 5/0 steel wool between coats and a final coat of wax…

Hinges are “Blumotion” soft close which I believe are going to be a new favorite for me…

An unsuspecting title for you post for such an amazingly beautiful cabinet. You aren’t kidding about the beauty of that cherry, and for a buck a board foot! Well, it found a good home in your hands. Very well done cabinet.

Great heirloom piece. Jealous at the $1 bd ft. Beautiful cherry. I just finished a small cabinet in cherry. Mine doesn’t look that good at 10 times the price. My buddy and I were lamenting the problem of finding good cherry.

Nice build and finish work. Well done!
