Today I made my first wooden pen. I have owned my wood lathe for 14 years and never used it once. My son asked me if I wanted to my pens with him during the Christmas holiday so that’s what motivated me into using my lathe. As a result I signed up for a 6 week wood turning class at Woodcraft near my home.

The first pen was a combination of my turning the upper portion of the center pen in the picture. My son turned the lower portion. The wood is dark Cocobolo. The left pen is also Cocobolo which I turned and created. The right pen is Birch which my son turned and created.

As a result of this first wood turning project I decided to sell my Craftsman lathe and replace it with a Powermatic lathe. My intention is to create a lot more wood turning project. Great way to start 2015.

They look marvelous!!!

-- Randy-- I may not be good...but I am slow! If good things come to those who wait.... Why is procrastination a bad thing?

Wonderful first pens. Love the woods you used, the grain looks very nice

-- Norman - I never never make a mistake, I just change the design.
